National cuisine of South Africa has been formed under the influences of colonists from the Netherlands, Germany, France and Britain, as well as immigrants from India. The traditional food in South Africa is usually based on maize and meat, which are main ingredients of the majority of the dishes. Traditionally for breakfast the locals eat Mieliepap (a maize porridge, served with butter and cheese toppings). Chakalaka is not less popular. It is roasted meat with stewed vegetables. The tourists for sure should try Boerewors (a spicy sausage dish) and Bobotie (a much-improved version of Shepherd's pie). Talking about national cuisine of South Africa it is impossible not to mention Biltong, cooked of cured meat with coriander, vinegar, sugar, Worcestershire sauce, garlic, onion, salt and pepper.
